For the most part, the Lady Toppers did. But they also had plenty of mistakes indicative of the first game of the season. WKU shot just 30.8 percent in the first half. For the game, the Lady Toppers also had 16 turnovers. But after they settled down at halftime, they got on a roll. In her post-game press conference, coach Mary Taylor Cowles said that she thought her team was somewhat lackadaisical on defense. But overall, she said she feels like WKU is in good shape. Not only do the Lady Toppers have depth that wasn't there last season, but included in that, senior Dominique Duck is back after a knee injury last season. "It's not good to have her back, it's great to have her back," Cowles said. Cowles said she was also impressed with the play of freshman Lashay Davis. Cowles said Davis has been willing to play point guard, an area WKU is in need of. The freshman was praised for being explosive and also smart with the ball. Cowles also addressed the last second addition of walk-on Tara Arnold to the team in the past few days. Arnold, a freshman from Western Hills (Ky.) didn't play. There's one more game for the Lady Toppers to get work done. But is there a different reason for the addition of Arnold? Cowles addressed the move and the game.
